Overall, this was a weaker draft. The top 2 on my board are fine 1/2’s, but the quality dropped off quickly before having a handful of solid wings to capably fill out the back half of the first 10. The quality of the middle of this draft goes down quickly though.
I dont normally like drafting Centers high, and he’s old for his draft class, but Chet Holmgren is a clear #1 for me. A guy who projects in a tier just below DPOY conversation in his prime who scores efficiently, spaces the floor and can make plays off the dribble is a textbook mold of a guy who can be a core part of a championship team. I like him more than Cunningham or anyone else last year.
Banchero isnt so much as misevaluated as a prospect to me, as much as I anticipate him being overrated. He’s kind of a poor man’s Carmelo Anthony. Somebody who’s points per game numbers make him look better than he is , because average efficency and defense make him hard to build around.
Picks 8-10 is where I see the most value in this draft. Lots of guys who you can easily imagine capbably guarding and spacing the floor (and in some cases doing more). If there’s one guy who I think I’m higher on than the consensus it’s probably Tari Eason. If he can harness his wildness he could be an impact guy on defense who’s a terror in transition and maybe even be a secondary offensive weapon.
Also, I hate that I wound up agreeing with the Kings, but I agree with Murray>Ivey. He scored more and did it more efficiently with better defensive numbers in the exact same league. Ivey definitely has a higher ceiling, but Murray’s game is ready right now.
